Senate, Assembly leaders announce budget plan
2025-26 Budget Bill, likely SB 101, expected to be voted on by Sunday, June 15
The leaders of the State Assembly and the State Senate have announced (see here) that they have reached agreement on a budget plan, key elements of which will be included in the 2025-26 Budget Bill (likely SB 101), expected to be amended and voted on this week or on Sunday, June 15. Budget committee hearings will proceed those votes by the full Assembly and Senate. This agreement is a “two-party” agreement, between the Senate and Assembly leadership. Negotiations between the Legislature and the Governor will intensify in the days ahead.
Other announcements from the legislative leaders will be linked to the online version of this post at jasonsisney.substack.com as they become available.
I will send separate posts with summaries from the Assembly Budget Committee and Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Committee documents, as they become available.
Trailer bills will be considered later in the month—typically closer to the time agreement is reached between the two houses and the Governor. Given the likely upcoming changes in federal financing and other budget uncertainties, significant budget action this August and September (before this year’s legislative session ends), during a possible special session later in the year, or immediately following legislators’ return to Sacramento in January 2026 is quite possible.
